I am passionate about ensuring that everyone has access to higher education should they choose to go, and I care about making sure my university affords students with diverse backgrounds with a safe environment in which they are to receive their education. The Office of Acess and Opportunity does just this and more. I have been a student assistant with the Office of Access and Opportunity at the University of South Carolina since Summer 2023. Through this position, I have enjoyed working with the administrative staff to complete research projects and assist with diversity initiatives and programs for the university. These projects include compiling comprehensive databases on training programs for the university's staff, programs that provide housing for newly hired faculty, and scholarship programs for Indigenous students. I also represent the office when greeting visitors, speaking at university events, and maintaining the front desk and office phone lines.

We assisted with planning, organizing, and presenting at Honors Orientation sessions that take place each week throughout the summer. We gave a presentation in each session and then led small group icebreakers and discussions. We also created social media content designed to bring together incoming Honors College first-year students, including going live on Instagram and creating short videos and infographics.
